Logging in and managing your password
Changing your password
To Change your password, click on the My Details link in the menu on the left hand site, and then click on the Change Password link on the next page.
Password Strength and length
To make the password as secure as possible, make sure that you use at least 8 characters, and have a mix of upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols. Avoid words found in dictionaries, names or common sequences (e.g. 1234, qwerty). Just for information, the top 10 most often hacked passwords are:
Whereas ak#Gde2yt4 is a strong password (do not actually use this one!). Another method is to use a phrase or series of words with symbols interspersed e.g. AbandonHopeA11WhoEnterH£re. In general, the longer the better, but not something that can be copied straight from a dictionary.
Frontis will let you proceed with a medium strength password of 8 characters which must contain at least one number or symbol.
Getting a new password
If you have forgotten your password you can request a new one by clicking on the ‘Forgotten’ link below the login box. On the next page (http://<<your site>>/bin/forgot.php) you will be asked to enter your user name. You will also be asked to enter a 'CAPTCHA' challenge-response test. This ensures that the request is from a genuine human being rather than an automated request from a 'Web Bot'.
A temporary password will then be sent to your registered email which you can then use to login to the system where you will be asked to change it (see Password Strength).
Passwords for the system are stored in an encrypted form so unfortunately we cannot send them to you.
User names are assigned by the organisation responsible for the web site. They cannot be changed by the user, but can be changed by the adminstrator.
Note that other users never see your User Name, but only your screen name. This is an added security measure so that a hacker has to obtain both User Name and password. So don't set your Screen Name to be the same as your User Name.
